Sandy Ridge offers breathtaking views. With more than 15 miles of trails and a variety of skill levels, there is a trail for everyone. From easy flow runs to expert-level climbs, and technical descents, there is something for everyone.

The International Mountain Biking Association and the Northwest Oregon BLM District Office created the Sandy Ridge Trail System. It offers 17 miles in length and is known for its exceptional technical features and exposure. This system has both singletrack as well as machine-built beginner-level and advanced trails.

The mountain biking trail is open all year and is regarded as one of the most beautiful in the country. A number of improvements have been made since the trail system's opening in 2009. The improvements include an expanded parking area, a new bike demonstration area, and a bicycle center. Another feature of the project is a designated event area.

Additionally to the new bike demo area the existing parking area will also be repurposed in order to host permitted trailhead events. This will allow for more accommodation and reduce the need to park in large numbers. In addition to other improvements, the entrance will now include security and art.

Aside from the bike demo and event area, the Sandy Ridge Trailhead Access project also contains two short connecting trails. They will connect to the existing parking lot and a bike hub. To facilitate riders' access to the trailhead, a bus stop is located at the entrance. Art and sculptures will be placed. Some of the sculptures may feature sculptures of mountain bikers and native animals.


The Sandy Ridge Trail System, located on Mount Hood's west side, offers riders of all abilities and ages a variety of experiences. There are over 15 miles worth of machine-built and unbuilt trails.

The system is located on top of a 70 million-year-old kaolin clay bed. The area was a wetland prior to the Sandy Ridge Trail System being developed. Eventually, it reverted to its natural state. The Trail System was originally part of a land trade when it was constructed. This land exchange allowed the creation of a large block of public land.
